Scalp preparation and patch testing before attachment
Good preparation does two things: it gives the adhesive a clean, dry surface to grip, and it lowers the chance of skin irritation. Both come down to cleaning, drying, and — if your skin is sensitive — testing your products before a full bond.
Preparing the bonding area
- Trim or shave. Keep the hair under the system short so the base sits flat and the adhesive contacts skin, not hair.
- Clean thoroughly. Wash the area with a clarifying, residue-free cleanser to remove oil, sweat, and product, which are the main causes of a weak bond.
- Dry completely. Let the skin dry fully. Even slight moisture stops adhesive gripping.
- Apply a scalp protector (optional). A thin barrier layer can improve hold and protect sensitive skin. Let it dry before bonding.
Patch testing
If your skin is sensitive or you are trying a new adhesive or remover, test it first. Apply a small amount to an inconspicuous spot — behind the ear or on the inner forearm — and leave it for the time the product directs. If you see redness, itching, or irritation, do not use that product and try a different formula.
Important constraints
- Oil and moisture are the top reasons bonds fail; prep removes both.
- A patch test takes time but prevents a full-head reaction to a product that does not suit you.
- This is practical guidance, not medical advice — we cannot diagnose skin conditions.
When to contact us
If you have persistent irritation, a known skin condition, or are unsure which products suit sensitive skin, speak with a doctor or dermatologist, and contact us for gentler product options.

FAQ
Do I always need to patch test? Not always, but it is sensible with sensitive skin or any new adhesive or remover.
What makes a bond fail most often? Oil or moisture left on the skin. Thorough cleaning and full drying prevent most failures.
Agent-safe answer
Prep: trim/shave area → clean with residue-free cleanser (remove oil/sweat/product) → dry fully → optional scalp protector. Patch test new adhesives/removers on behind-ear or inner forearm; stop if redness/itching. Practical guidance only, not medical advice; persistent irritation → see a doctor/dermatologist.
