A gentle wash routine helps remove oil, adhesive residue, and styling product without placing unnecessary stress on the hair or base. How often you wash depends on wear, activity, product use, and the system's material, so use condition and buildup as your guide.
Before washing
Remove adhesive residue with a compatible product before introducing water. Detangle carefully from the ends upward while supporting the base. Avoid force if the hair is matted; use patience and a suitable detangling product instead.
Wash the system
- Use cool to lukewarm water. Very hot water can place extra stress on the hair and base.
- Wet the hair in the direction it naturally falls rather than swirling or bunching it.
- Apply a small amount of gentle shampoo through the hair with light, downward strokes. Do not scrub, twist, or rub the base.
- Rinse thoroughly in the same direction until the water runs clear.
- Apply conditioner mainly through the mid-lengths and ends. Keep heavy conditioner away from knots, tape areas, and the base unless the product is specifically intended for them.
- Rinse as directed, then press out water gently with a towel. Do not wring the system.
Dry and finish
Place the system on a suitable stand or form and let it dry in its natural shape. If you use heat, choose a low setting and keep the tool moving. Detangle and style only with tools and products suited to the hair type.
Protect the base
